Star Tours: The Adventures Continue - L'Aventure Continue construction Disneyland Paris

DLP Today announces the arrival of brand new Star Tours: The Adventures Continue construction photos; non-stop pictorial service to the corner of Discoveryland being transformed into a whole new Star Wars area. Transforming the original attraction with the latest 3-D projection show and other décor changes and improvements should have been a mostly internal job, but at Disneyland Paris the 1992 exterior is seeing some serious heavy construction. The headline change is the X-Wing being redesigned with its wings closed to sit atop the former Star Traders tower. That structure itself appears to have been practically completely stripped back and rebuilt. Though scaffolding and tarps have now been removed, giving a look at the changes, there’s still plenty of final cladding to go.

Below, the roof and projecting canopies of the building now have a totally different colour scheme, which wasn’t particularly evident on the concept plans revealed earlier this year. Very much a shift to the “dark side”, the brighter cream has been replaced with a metallic battleship grey; former red accent details now simply another shade of grey. The canopy all around the structure was also practically fully rebuilt to fill in the gaps in the original design — originally it looked like flaps which could open and close; now it’s a solid cover from the weather for what will be an outdoor overflow queue.

Since this building is becoming a dedicated Star Wars meet and greet, with its own permanent queue, the colour change is probably as much about modernising the look as it is setting this apart as its own attraction, distinct from Star Tours itself. There’s no clue yet what the exact name of the meet and greet will be, or whether it will become an actual numbered attraction on the park map, similar to the Princess Pavilion. Looking out over the construction site from the windows in Videopolis, a clear overview of all the work on the ground can be seen. Starting with the ground itself, new blue-hued block paving is continuing to spread — now filling both the side of Videopolis and a big expanse in front of the new meet and greet.

The large triangular steel structure replaces the X-Wing as the marquee of the attraction itself, providing protection for Cast Members and splitting the queue into standby and Fastpass lines. The second steel beam will make up a roof for the Fastpass distribution area; more beams were added on Saturday to provide the structure of this canopy. The original Fastpass machines and canopies were all completely removed when work began. As part of the work, Disneyland Paris seems to also be aiming for better day-to-day operations around the attraction. This explains reworking the entire Fastpass area and what appears to be heavy concrete wall construction in the background.

In fact, these walls are simply being formed to create raised planters around what will be a new outdoor overflow queue, replacing the line which used to extend underneath the Disneyland Railroad entrance to the left. After the installation of Fastpass back in 2001, this has caused problems because the Fastpass entrance into the attraction, being on the left-hand side, cut across the only way into this line. This wasn’t necessarily a problem as the attraction’s popularity fell, but with the new revitalised version and renewed popularity in Star Wars itself, the attraction will now have a longer permanent queue line again and the Fastpass line will be fully separated right around the back of the area. See the new annotated plan above for an idea of how it’ll look.

With the moulding of the new concrete walls, good attention is being paid to make sure they have the same design of notches and indents as those in the foreground. In the background, little change can be spotted with the showbuilding itself. Large sheets cover both the attraction entrance and its exit, where the new Star Traders shop will now occupy a greatly enlarged space. • More Plans & Concepts —Plans reveal redesigned Star Tours exterior, new Star Wars boutique & character location • Previously — Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary deconstructed: Star Tours – The Adventures Continue Finally, all the latest Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary communicated has confirmed that the attraction’s official in-park title after re-opening will be Star Tours: L’Aventure Continue.
